Practices
The Masters Team meets on Mondays from 5:30–7:00 pm at Ski Hill, running from January through March. Each session blends focused technique instruction in both classic and skate skiing with fun, social workouts that build fitness and community.
Practice times may be adjusted depending on conditions—stay tuned for updates. In rare cases, sessions may be moved or canceled due to weather or snow conditions; we’ll communicate any changes as soon as possible.
Coaching
Our Masters coaches are knowledgeable, encouraging, and passionate about skiing at every level. They’ll help you refine your technique, boost your confidence, and rediscover the joy of gliding on snow—whether your goal is fitness, skill development, or just sharing great ski days with fellow enthusiasts.
Ability
Open to ages 18+ (exceptions can be made—please enquire). Skiers of all experience levels are welcome! Whether you’re returning to skiing, building new skills, or just looking for a fun winter workout group, this team offers something for everyone.
Communication
We’ll use email and team app updates to share details about practice times, conditions, and any schedule changes. Stay connected with your coaches and teammates throughout the season!
Competition
While the Masters Team isn’t focused on racing, there are plenty of opportunities to test your skills and join in the fun at local events like Skirennen and potential opportunity to travel to some state-wide events if interested. Participation is optional—but cheering each other on is always encouraged!
You’ll need two pairs of skis for the season — one classic and one skate.
For classic skis, you can use skin, fish-scale bases since we won’t have a waxing table available during practices or waxable if you desire the extra speed.
Skate skis have a smooth base and are designed to glide. They’re typically a bit shorter than classic skis.
Proper ski length makes a big difference! Any local sporting goods store that sells Nordic gear can help you find the right size.
You’ll also need cross-country ski boots that match your ski bindings. If you’re buying skis and boots separately, make sure the binding systems are compatible — either NNN or SNS (Profil or Pilot). These systems don’t work together. Some skiers prefer a combi boot (usable for both classic and skate), while others opt for separate boots for better performance.
For poles, Nordic poles are longer than Alpine ones and have ergonomic grips with triangular baskets.
Classic poles should reach your armpits when standing tall.
Skate poles should reach between your chin and nose.
Masters Team Registration
Registration fees go towards purchasing training materials, subsidizing Team Apparel costs, purchasing U.S. Ski & Snowboard memberships and SafeSport training for all of our coaches, and paying our Nordic Team Lead Coaches.
There is scholarship money available to those who need help covering the cost of a Season Pass or Ski Team registration fees. Apply HERE.

Race Introduction:
Participation in races is NOT required however, skiers are highly encouraged to participate in at least one race.
Typically, races are held on both Saturday and Sunday with one day devoted to Slalom and the other Giant Slalom (GS). Participants are encouraged to race both days, however, one day is optional. Each racer will get two opportunities on each course - one run in the morning and a second run in the afternoon. Race days are long days, so please plan accordingly.
Please discuss plans to attend races with your coach.
Awards for both days are typically handed out on a single ceremony on Sunday after the completion of racing.
At least one LWSC Coach will be present at each of the off-site races. Parents are responsible for getting skiers to and from the event locations and remaining present for the duration of the event.
